Trainmaster – TXNW
Reporting Location: Dumas, TX
Position Summary
Assist with managing the daily operations of the railroad; maintain a positive relationship with all customers and vendors; assist in selection, training, managing, and motivating all employees at the railroad; and ensure compliance of all safety procedures. Supervises and coordinates activities of train crew engaged in switching railcars within the yards of the railroad, storage tracks, or industry plants to facilitate loading or unloading of cars or making up and breaking up of trains. Oversees train operations and is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trains.
Reports directly to the Railroad Assistant Superintendent

Position Requirements
Education and Experience:
• College degree preferred
• Managerial railroad operation experience required
• In-depth knowledge of FRA regulations and requirements for the operation and movement of trains
• In-depth knowledge of railroad operations, including, but not limited to, maintenance of way, transportation, mechanical, and clerical
Licenses and Certifications:
• Current driver’s license without restrictions

Availability:
• This is a full-time position on rotating shifts.
• Requires commitment to irregular work hours in support of the success of the operation. Occasionally works extended hours and shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• This position needs to be able to travel when required.
• This position needs to be available as needed, in case of an emergency at the railroad.
• This position requires a supervisory responsibility of all TXNW employees.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Analyze and manage all departments of the railroad’s operations for optimum efficiency, safety, and profitability, and make appropriate recommendations for operation improvements.
• Assist in the field with classification of railyard and blocking, and training and rules compliance testing with employees and yardmasters to ensure safety across the railroad.
• Build a strong culture of employee engagement and commitment.
• Maintain precise accountability and accuracy of all tariff charges and additional charges, reported weekly.
• Demonstrate and lead with corporate values of Integrity, Safety, Servant Leadership, and Quality.
• Develop and maintain close working relationships with customers and community development departments.
• Verify the railroad’s safety program through employee training, regularly scheduled safety meetings, FRA regulation compliance, and company rule compliance to achieve an environment free of accidents and injuries.
• Conduct all post-accident procedures, including drug tests, investigations, reports, and discipline, if necessary. Provide an accurate, complete, and timely investigation, including root cause, remedial action, and recommended solutions.
• Communicate with Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent and assist with projects and operations as needed.
• Complete and remit all required reports and communication in an accurate and timely manner, both orally and written.
• Assist with control of operating expenses.
• Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures.
• Provide direction to employees through objectives and programs in conjunction with goals set by Management
• Supervise and coordinate activities of dayshift and afternoon shift train crew.
• Notify train crews of switching orders and which cars are to be moved and manage cars online through ARMS
• Talk and communicate effectively with co-workers, crew, and management in concise, clear, respectful, efficient, and professional manner.
Working Conditions
• Indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions (could be extreme) on even and uneven surfaces and on various heights of equipment. May be with noise, chemicals, and fumes.
• Will be required to stand, sit, walk, squat, climb, and reach with hands and arms. May occasionally be required to lift or carry up to 50 pounds.
Special Requirements
• Comply with all company and FRA safety procedures, policies, and rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
